Lions GM discusses possible contract extension for Jared Goff

The Detroit Lions made All-Pro wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown and All-Pro offensive tackle Penei Sewell the highest-paid players at their respective positions in April with monster contract extensions.

Next on the list would presumably be quarterback Jared Goff, who led the team to its first division title in 30 years and first two playoff wins in 32 years during the 2023 season.

The three-time Pro Bowler is set to earn $27.3M in 2024, but his contract expires at the end of the season. Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes discussed the status of Goff's contract during a Thursday appearance on WXYT.

"In a perfect world, we’d have had all three of them done, bang, bang, bang," Holmes said in regard to Brown's, Sewell's and a possible Goff extension. He added that he has "faith that it’s going to get done."

"First and foremost, he’s earned an extension,” Holmes said, per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. "It’s important, it’s a high priority for us and both sides are working really, really hard and these things just take time."

Goff finished last season with career highs in completions (407) and completion percentage (67.3), while adding 4,575 passing yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for a 97.9 passer rating.
